Who is Florida's Superfan?

I’m DQing Mike on a technicality. He owns the place. LOL!

Now that I’ve picked on Mike, I have to admit that he literally lives at that race track. If I owned the place I dunno if I could put in the time and effort he does, especially when work chases him home everynight via his cellphone. And I think if he turned off his cell they’d come bang on his door. Maybe that’s why he has Sargent? LOL! A big dog or a big gun, he’s gotta have one or the other in order to be left alone.

And Carol, as my wife reminded me, I’ve been promoting Ocala Speedway ever since I first began going there. Alot of it is talking to others or inviting guests, but in recent years I’ve done everything from hand out passes to constant posting on message boards and anywhere else I can do it. When you really believe in something it becomes almost second nature to promote it, and I believe in Ocala Speedway, it’s current owners, and their plan for the future. That’s why I do it! I’m certainly not getting rich off of it, and all of the work I’ve done since the last night of racing has been on me. The hope is maybe someday in the future when Ocala Speedway is packed with fans every week there will be more rewards for me and everyone else.

I will throw a vote out there for Carol also. No disrespect Mike but it seems like it doesn’t matter were we race at in Florida that Carol walks up and gives us a hug. Maybe you should stop by also. Hugs are not mandatory.

Mike. Back in what I want to say was 1975ish while i was racing at Ocala my mother got the “Spectator of the Year” award. I’ll bet she still has the trophy. I know we still have pictures. She doesn’t get to many races any more but when she does come to see her grandson race it is a special day for her.

What really interest me is these list of tracks everyone visits. My son Dustin started a list of tracks he has raced at. 44 different tracks. He doesn’t count the tracks that he doesn’t race on like today he is working at Daytona and that is not on his list. I know of at least 5 more he worked at this year that he didn’t count. Maybe we need a new thread for this.

All in fun!

this has been fun and there are ALOT of superfans. as for Mike… maybe we could give him a vote for superowner! and as for you BJ… “superbrownie”! roflllllllll J/K
thanks for the vote andrew… you and your family are special no matter where i go!

if we claim to be such good fans then we need to get our voices heard AWAY from tracks. we need to bring in new people… bring a friend, put out the word and support your local track. my company has never advertised. we have gotten all of our work from word of mouth and integrity to our customers.

tonight CCMP is having some really fun racing. alot of the pros such as Jeff Choquette, jeff scofield, randy fox, wayne morris, and others will be doing a switchoff race with our locals in the Outlaw Street Stock division!!!. also a 50 lap Sportsman and our regulars. COME ON DOWN!
“superfan” carolwicks aka OZ :engel016:

Not a very good year, lotsa rainouts? I know I?m forgetting six or eight, I really should write this stuff down. This is 41 tracks, at least double that many races.

Florida: Orlando (oval and drag strip), Auburndale, Ocala, Desoto, East Bay, Volusia, St. Petersburg (IRL), Daytona, Putnam, New Smyrna, Gainesville (NHRA), Citrus County, USA in Lakeland, Sebring.
California: Irwindale, Long Beach (street race), San Jose (street race), a short track I can?t remember.
Ohio: Toledo, Mansfield, Lorain, Cleveland (street race).
Virginia: Virginia Motorsports Park (NHRA), Virginia International Raceway.
Oregon: Portland (Champ Car).
Canada: Mont Tremblant (Quebec), Edmonton (Alberta), Toronto (street race).
Nevada: Las Vegas (street race), LVMS Bullring oval.
Texas: Houston (street race).
Wisconsin: Road America, Slinger Speedway
Kansas: Heartland Park.
Alabama: Barber Motorsports Park
Arkansas: Riverside Speedway (West Memphis)
Georgia: Lanier, Road Atlanta
Michigan: Grattan Raceway Park
Mississippi: Pike County

I was at Desoto Speedway every weekend except for about 5 races out of 36last year. Raced twice, helped out with announcing about 6 or 7 times when someone couldn’t make it, was a pit member for 3 cars, and 1 weekend I missed I was in NY and went to Spencer Speedway that weekend.

I still vote for Carol though. :ernaehrung004:

welp, i had “furthest traveled” wrapped up … right until oldyeller posted.

Wisconsin: Road America, Slinger Speedway

when do you get up there? we normally make a spectating side trip to Slinger the weekend of the July 4th Enduro at www.NewParisSpeedway.com and catch Slinger’s firewoks spectacular.

it’d be funny if we were both there at the same time. Al Schill is getting a little old and, perhaps, losing some aggressiveness but he’s still pretty good.

btw, in my opinion, competitors and track employees/volunteers ( like Rusty Marcus :grinser010: ) can’t be considered for the “SuperFan” title. competitors are coming no matter what and, at a minimum, the employees/volunteers are getting in free and have assumed responsibilities towards the track.

“Fans” have to pay good money and then suffer through whatever the track decides to put on as a ‘show’.

Crew Members should probably go in the “SuperFan” pool as many of them are paying their own way into the track and are crew for a driver because they are fans/friends of his.

so by my criteria, i “Fan-ned” at Slinger, Auburndale, Orlando ( i went to OSW several times without a car ), New Smyrna ( Speedweeks ), Lakeland and Sebring in 2007.

I was up there for the Champ Car race, and try to hit Slinger every time im in the area. Those guys know how to run a show.

I did not attend any racetracks in 2007 but I won a lot of bench races, I reran some old races in my head with better results and I posted on KARNAC a bunch of times. I am,once again, a field filler.
