Don Bok photo taken at the driver’s meeting… How many of the Busch GN drivers can you recognize from 18 years ago?
Man, I think I was at that drivers meeting. Wasn’t that the year that large peices fo the track kept coming up and they had that long red flag and Nascar poured hydrolic concrete in the holes? I used to love going to Barberville when they ran there. I raced flat track in the mid '70’s there before they paved it. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Too bad I can’t remember yesterday. God, I am getting old.
Look at the hair on Joe Nemechek and the two brothers David and Jeff Green. There is also Kenny Wallace, Tommy Houston, Jimmy Hensley and I am not sure about the guy looking back, is that Bobby Hillen(spelling)? I am pretty sury the kid in the center top row is Jeff Gordon and a couple over from him picking his nose is Bobby Labonte sitting next to Steve Grissom.
Who’s the guy in the red shirt, blue hat, back row picking his nose? or the one behind him doing the same thing?
Hell that looks like Jerry Binner in front all the way to the left! (with his head turned)
Almost missed Ken Schader next kenny Wallace.
Robert Pressley and Elton Sawyer top left, and crewchief Clyde McLeod with his head touching the paper. Bobby Dotter in pink shirt and is that Dave Rezendes with the cool mullet.
The track broke up in 92.
Remember the 1991 was televised on TNN on a Sunday afternoon in March. The 1992 race was ran on July 4th. (Jeff Gordon led many laps) I think the 1989 race was won by Rob Moroso. I can’t remember who won the 1990 race.
I know I’m way in the minority on these thoughts but:
- I wish Volusia was still asphalt.
- I wish Ocala was still asphalt.
- Give me an asphalt super late model race over a sprint car race anyday.
Is that Jimmy Spencer back row 2nd from the end on the left side?
I was pretty young 15, but I am pretty sure I was in the stands for this race.
Good memories back then, always seemed like a lot of energy at the track.
My parents babysat Chris in 92 so we could go and watch the race. Since the race was red flagged for breaking up, we made it back home before it was over with and finished watching on tv. Dad went with some friends when it went back to dirt but I have never been back since 92.

Don’t like passing, eh?
Just funnin’.
I want to say the driver down in the left corner with his head turned kind of looks like Tim Steele. I also think I see Tim Fedewa in there as well.
These two photos were taken during the early portion of the July 12th 1992 race before the track started breaking up…
Ist pic shows Joe Nemecheck leading Jimmy Spencer, Jeff Burton, Ward Burton, Jeff Green, Bobby Dotter and Kenny Wallace…
2nd pic shows Jeff Gordon in the Baby Ruth Ford leading the field… He later crashed… Steve Grissom won the race (He’s running eighth in the photo)… Others I can ID are #75 Butch Miller, #44 Bobby Labonte, #34 Todd Bodine, #99 Ricky Craven and #6 Tommy Houston… The #3 Dale Earnhardt, Inc. car was driven by David Bonnett…
Joe Nemecheck went on to win the Busch GN championship that year…
For those of you waxing nostalgic about this era of BGN racing, you should really pick up the book Second to None - The History of the Busch Series.. It’s a great book that reminds you what a great series it really was until NA$CAR mucked it all up by going to V8s, amongst other things.
Also, I think the third car from the back in that last photo is Tom Peck in the #19.

I was looking at the races they ran there, my dad and my son attended one of these with me. I wish I could remember if this was the last race we attended before my dad passed away. I didn’t remember Cecil Eunice running in this series until I saw his name on the finishing order.
I remember being down in turn one for it. Hotter than hell and miserable. Packed in like sardines is an understatement.

Shouldn’t this be under the Comic’s Corner?
