1996 Bomber feature at Desoto Speedway.
What other classes were in the show that night?
In itself…that vid seems to debunk the theory of “fans won’t come to see low car counts”.
That’s like pouring salt in an open wound…owners today would kill for 1/3 of those fans in the stands.
We had late models, street stock. mini stock and I Think Mod mini. If you have ever been to Desoto in the old days, Roby Helm is announcing, Tr Fultz is on the flag stand and John Osteen is on the back straight Flag. The altman Chevrolet Monte Carlo is the pace car and Gene and Stanley, the builders of the track were still running things. That night was an unusually low car count.
I will upload another class tonight. I have to be carfull and not go over my upload threshold. Bob…
Hey Bob…
the intro to that clip says 1986, not '96. I assume the ‘86 date is correct by looking at the cars.
Great clip and racin’ that night too…thanks
-JIM-
Yeah its "86 Jimbo. I am going to start an upload of the street stock class from that night as soon as I get through printing some DVD’s for church. The racing was good back then and the Stands were full. Most nights people were standing to watch the races. I hope you guys enjoy these as much as I enjoy reviewing them. I have 27 years of video and I am looking to get it organized soon so I can find a specific date. A lot of memorys. I can’t hardly stand not being at a race track on Saturday. My wify drug me to a 50th anniversity party this afternoon and here I am. Like a fish out of water. LOL! Bob…

Kim and I are doing great and having fun, riding our Goldwing and going to all kinds of races here in N.C., Va., Tenn., and S.C. We are big fans, car owners in the Rolling Thunder Open wheel modified series with 17 year old veteran Dale Dodge Jr.driveing.(rtm-racing.com). I also drive once in a while in the vintage race cars for a couple of owners.(older guys having fun!!) A 1964 ChevyII Nova and a 1965 Impala SS at Hickory, Rockingham(big track!) Orange County Speedway,Tri-County Speedway, and North Wilkesboro Speedway. I live about 15 minutes from N.Wilkesboro track, just reopened last weekend!! (finally!!) Found good jobs here and am very thankful for that! Please tell Willie and SaraLee that Kim and I said hello and we miss them. Gene used to drive racecars for Willie and Harold Gillis and others worked on them. Check your private messages and let me know if it went through.Hope you and yours are doing great! See if you know who I’m asking about in the street stock race you posted from 86? One of them lives in Concord N.C. and was on Alan Kulwiki’s championship crew! Thanks,Rick
I am glad you and Kim are doing good. I sold my last Gold wing about 17 or 18 years ago. The biggest engine then was 1200CC I think. They are what 1800 now? I droll every time I see one go by. I went down to Haps a couple weeks ago and he is doing good. He rides a 3 wheel Gold Wing every day. I also envy you guys being where you are. We talked about moving up there many times even looked at property. We looked around Franklin. We figured we could get to any where in short order. We waited too long. We run out of money. If my video business doesn’t pick up soon I am in danger of finding a real job. Oh your PM didn’t come thru. I’ll look at that SS clip and see what you are talking about. I am really enjoying getting those old videos out and reviewing them. Man those were the days. Talk soon. Bob…
