Three cheers for the ACT cars! I really enjoyed their 100 lapper, and considering that the starting order will be an invert of todays top 20 finishers, they should have a hell of a fine race on Monday too. This group brought down 28 cars, and whatever engine rules they have worked, because 20+ finished the 100 lapper. I think only one car went off on the hook, and no one appeared to blow up or overheat. Those guys could have run all night, and I bet they all had a great time.
The ACT brought some unusual twists to the World Series. Among them are an abundance of French Canadian racers. They are a hard nosed and competitive bunch, but I don’t envy the announcers when half the drivers are named something like Jean Marie St. Lapetilliermont.
I suspect that somewhere in the frozen north, our blue and orange “move over” flag must have a different meaning. Some of the yankees and Canadians thought it means to run door to door with who ever is nearby, and don’t let those pesky lead lap cars by. In reality, there were only a few drivers doing this, and the officials got them sorted out by half way, but it certainly had to be frustrating for some of the leaders.
I never saw the starter wave a pink flag before either. What could that mean? You need to come in for a make-over? It turns out that the ACT uses a “piggy” flag. If the starter thinks you are hogging too much track, he waves the pink pig flag at you. Try waving the pink flag at Florida rednecks, and watch them park their car, climb out, beat the starters butt and then climb right back in to race some more.
I think the ACT is an excellent addition to the World Series, and I won’t miss their 100 lapper tomorrow!
The SLM feature was an excellent, competitive race. Yes, the car count was small, only 15 starters, but the action toward the front was an excellent show. I think there were 4 or 5 leaders, at least one bizarre call, and my favorite driver ended up with a torn up car. I’m not happy about the crash, but it was a good race.
It looks like we have an old fashioned World Series feud going on! Its just my opinion from the stands, maybe things are different in the pits, but I betcha we’ve got lots more fireworks coming between Becca Kasten and Tim Russell.
