Congrats to him, and especially the Wood Brothers, who have always been some of my heroes. However, Daytona is a different animal than most other places, and I don’t think we can count on seeing the kind of performance they displayed at Daytona at most other tracks.
NASCAR’s NEW ERA!!!
Yes, the old guys and new kids are looks pretty good. The media reports say that NASCAR’s rating was up higher than it’s been since 2008. WOW!!! It’s neat that Woods Brothers Racing opens the door. The old bringing in the New ERA!!!. Now on to round two!!!

I bet all owners were saying “Boy I gotta have this kid”. Just like Hendrick did about Jeff Gordon when he drove Nationwide (Busch) for Roush’ I personally think he wouldnt stand a chance with the Woods right now in Cup.(and i love the Woods Brothers) Let him run Nationwide full time, Cup when he can. Get more seat time and then next yr maybe go cup, hopefully for the Woods if they can find the $ to run cup full time. I think we push lots of these kids too hard and expect too much from them . Does anyone really think the Woods could make a run at it against Hendrick, with all the $ Hendrick has, there should not be a comparison between Trevor and Gordon and Johnson, just for that reason at this time. I mean, look at Lagano, great driver, great kid but pushed way too hard way too fast.
Just like Hendrick did about Jeff Gordon when he drove Nationwide (Busch) for Roush’
JG never drove for Roush, but yes, he was in a Ford before Hendrick grabbed him. In the late '80s and early ‘90s, when JG was tearin’ up Sprint cars and Midgets, Bill Davis picked him up for a ride in the Busch car (Carolina Tool and the Baby Ruth car). Davis signed him for his first Winston Cup ride (Atlanta '92, also Richard Petty’s last race as a driver), then Hendrick snatched him for the '93 season.
We all know the history after that.

This was their plan to begin with. Trevor is only running part-time Sprint Cup this year, full-time Nationwide. He’s running I think 16 races for the Wood Brothers this year, with a couple of other drivers in that seat as well.

Sorry my history wasn’t right. I knew Gordon drove a ford in Nationwide and Hendrick grabed him. Didnt mean that was all bad. My comment was simply im sure LOTS of owners were saying "Boy, I gotta have this kid, just like RSB said he thought Roush was saying. Heck, Petty congratulated him too, I imagine he was saying “I gotta have this kid” I was also saying there are lots of people want to see him in cup this yr full time, I was simply saying give him some time, LOTS of these kids have been pushed to hard too fast. I also knew, as everyone does he’s only running part time cup this yr. I guarantee Roush, Hendrick and who knows who else will try to get him for next yr for cup?? Thats their job as car owners. Remember, Derrick Cope won the 500 too, lets give the kid some time.
Heck, Petty congratulated him too, I imagine he was saying “I gotta have this kid”
Richard does “have the kid”; he was listed as the car owner of the 21 at Daytona Kinda cool for Petty to be hooked up with the Wood Brothers after 60+ years of “rivalries”…LOL…
But yeah, I know what you mean, Tuna. The kid’s gonna go far - IF he don’t let it go to his head like Kyle Busch…the kid came outta Late Models and Hooter’s Pro Cup - real short track racing heritage.
LOL…Derrike Cope got lucky that Earnhardt blew a tire going into three that year. I think they stayed out on a green-flag pit stop sequence and caught a lucky caution later on; that’s how they got up front that day.
Michaels made a BIG MISTAKE???
Michael Waltrip Racing release Trevor last year. WOW!!! Michael raved about him taking Carl Edwards on for a 100 lapper a Nashville. When the next week released him. HUMMMMMM only if you could turn back to clocks?
He was pretty good in Arca too however the Daytona 500 is a race of luck more than anything. I would love to see the Wood Brothers be a force at every track but I don’t see it happening.
Michael raved about him taking Carl Edwards on for a 100 lapper a Nashville. When the next week released him. HUMMMMMM only if you could turn back to clocks?
It wasn’t like they wanted to let him go because he was “no good”; MWR had to let him go because they couldn’t find a sponsor for the car for this year. I also believe he was driving for Aaron’s in Hooter’s Pro Cup; not sure who he drove for in ARCA.
Trevor really didn’t drive for anybody in Hooters. His dad bought him his own Hooters team. His marketing team acquired the McDonalds sponsorship for their team. And actually the kid came out of World Karting right to Hooters and than right to DEI. Dad bought him a developmental ride their.
You guys are right. Trevor will go a long way. He has a good head on his shoulders and I don’t think he will let it go to his head. He comes from a good family. He was always fun to mess with in our pits once you get to know him. We pitted together for two years. He was always very quiet and shy in front of the camera and on the grid. He had to go to like a Carnegie school to be able speak in front of the camera. I’ve been telling ya to watch him for years. Watch him at Phoenix. He is a clean driver and if he don’t get caught up in someone mess he could get the Wood Brothers their best finish ever their. We wish him the best of luck.
I’m glad the kid had a good run. It’s a boost for him and Wood brothers, the sad part is every thing I’ve seen in the media since the 500 the are talking about JR! (sigh)
I wonder what Hendrick car Chase Elliot will be in when he’s old enough? HMMM…

Maybe Martins? he’ll realize someday he ain’t winning no championship!! It’s my guess he and Jr will both be gone next yr unless Jr gets his tali in gear.
Looks like he wadded up his primary car on the first lap of practice in Phoenix. As I said earlier, it was a great win for the team, but I can’t believe how many people talk like he is the second coming.

In addition
Before I get bashed by the Bayniacs I’ll say that I have been wishing for some good LUCK for the Wood Brothers for a LONG time. I was happy to see them win and yes ,even happy for the kid. (just needed to bring ya’ll back down to earth)
But let’s hold off on making him king just yet.
The situation with the new noses, new pavement, and tag team racing, was all new this time and a completely level playing field for this one race. Once the massive engineering machines of Hendricks,Rousch, and such feed the millions,AND MILLIONS !!! of The Rock’s fans er… I mean dollars into there systems, along with the data they collected , it’ll be back to the same old Johnson,Harvick,Edwards , K Busch, CRAP. yeah CRAP, CRAPACHINOooo
Jacko, Its just another example of expecting to much to soon from a kid that needs a couple yrs seat time before he runs full time Sprint. Os far as “wadding” up the car, I believe it was brake failure, hardly the drivers fault.

You my friend, are 100% right!! Oh, I know I’m running the risk of starting another bash Tuna thread but did anyone happen to notice who won the truck race, I think they did, its very quiet on here about it!!!
Kind of reminds you of Jr, huh?
Jacko. Do you want to tell everybody that he went into the corner with absolutely no brakes and then “wadded up his primary car in the first lap of practice at Phoenix.” http://worldtrendnow.com/nba-news-trevor-bayne-crashes-on-first-practice-lap-at-phoenix You did say that you didn’t think that we could count on the same kind of performance out of the Wood Brother at Phoenix as they had at Daytona and you are right but I can tell you that it won’t be because of Trevor.
And for the “second coming” thing. I think you are confused with the post about Chase Elliott. I haven’t any post about Trevor being “the greatest driver ever” “top 5 to ever wall the earth” “I can say I saw him race once to my grand kids” kind of post. Just people saying Trevor has real talent and and a good kid they wish him luck. Did I miss something that you saw?
I don’t think that the Wood Brothers with ALL the great drivers they ever had
ever finished better than 15th at Phoenix. I think that this weekend They have
their best chance with Trevor to get their best finish ever. You don’t think so?
Have any of you even watched Trevor the last to year in Nationwide. He had some great runs and poles in not near the best equipment?
