congratulations Trevor Bayne

After stuffing it in the wall in 1 lap, if I were him, I would say something was wrong with the brakes, too. This is a perfect example of my point, great kid, but too early to crown. I think a more experienced racer would have pitted before getting up to speed with brake issues, if this were in fact the case. I think he is a great kid, no disrepect to him at all. I am amused by the racing experts and fans having him challenging Johnson for the championship after one win.

I used the “no brakes” excuse before…after shifting on a restart i forgot to switch my foot to the brake pedal going into turn one. I only did that once! LOL!
GO TREVOR!!!

Jacko. I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant the people on here. Not the press and experts. But what can you expect. It was the Daytone 500 and he was the youngest winner and it was the Wood Brothers. Can you get any better press.

Heck 3/4 of all race fans call Jr their favorite driver. I think hes a great guy too, but NOT a great driver at least at this time. Hit the wall? Whats JRs average, 1 out of every 3rd race? My point, everyone still loves Jr. makes excuses for him, waits for him and jumps all over Trevor because he lost his brakes and hit the wall in practice. Its just not fair. What is tjis, the second or 3rd car Jrs drove for Hendrick so far. As far as I’m concerned switching crew chief in the same organization is the same as switching teams. My point? Like i said, i like Jr too, but will never understand fan loyality to him like it is when lets face it, hes mid pack at best, and practice in Trevors 2nd race half the fans are ready to persecute him.

We need another nail…

…because Joe Jac hit this one right on the head.

Great posts, man.

To me all that race did was showcase the decreased level of experience it takes to compete in what NASCAR calls Sprint Cup. If I were one of the “Superstars” of CRAPCAR I’d be wondering how I could explain to my sponsor that a part time team with a 20 year old kid in his second race (in a Sprint Cup car) beat me at the Daytona 500. I am a Wood Brothers fan from way back but a part of me wants to know the real reason why an inexperienced, 20 year old kid was their first choice for this historic event (for them). I think I may have read a clue to this mystery somewhere in the body of this thread when someone reported that his dad bought a Hooter’s Cup team, a marketing team AND a developmental deal from DEI (probably at a huge discount)…there seems to be a pattern here…

Wood Brothers at one time were the class of the circuit. It would appear that now that class has a price tag on it. Just another sad reminder of the current state of affairs of racing in general.

I think Jimmy McKinley said it best (and I quote): “Sigh…”

Thanks, Os. You wait and see who is on the grid at Vegas if I hit the Powerball this weekend!:ernaehrung004:

rember when?

I do rember when you were the guy to beat in short track and you were a young kid at desoto speedway.
About the same year a nother kid nd his parents moraged there house for a bush car and set fast time in there first race and lead till the motor went south. It took a nother year before he got a sponsor and a ride some punk kid Rusty Wallace.
I beleave the younger you are the faster you will be. Older is smarter but slower…
bring on the kids. you were one once. If yuor dad had the money you would have been there to.

nascar experience

As a result the points leaders in the two lowers series who have no wins and just one top-five finish between the two of them. In the Nationwide Series it?s Jason Leffler who leads the points with no top-fives and three top-tens. He?s averaging an 8.5 place finis

but consider how little experience trevor has.
