I have an 86 Monte Carlo with a 305 and I’m having a problem with the power steering reserve tank.It leaks out of the top while racing.
Any suggestions?
try putting a radiator hose over the top and cut the neck off another so you can add it to the top
I have seen alot of stock racers do this.
My thinking would be that you have air in the system. Did you have the hoses off or changed anything? After you race, how hot is the fluid?
Stock pump and tank> if it has transmission fluid in it get it out (it foams). Use power steering fluid and keep fluid level on the cold mark when it’s hot. Otherwise make and extension on the top as said above. Also, if your class will allow it run reduction pulley on crank.
Benny has the word right there, heed it.
ATF was OK back in the day before they did all this other stuff to it.
The speed the pump was design to work at was much lower then we run in the race car:ernaehrung004:
X3 or as a last resort, cover the lid with a rag and zip ties. I used the royal purple power steering fluid, never had a problem with foam.
thanks everybody
I heard that’s illegal at OSW. It makes the car handle sooooooooooooo much better! Or maybe that’s just if they can’t find anything better to bitch about!
