"cone" restarts

Every track should do it! JMO!

yes!!!

Agreed. Racing is about rolling the dice!

I too like the concept.

Im not sure,Some tracks might be a advantage, wider racing groove etc.On a tight track were u really have to work the outside YES of course, maybe somewhere like NSS u would simply do double file starts…somewhere like OSS u could do the CONE race.
BUT 1 thing to be said, shake it up I applaud then doin something diffrent.

It didn’t go as well as we would have liked, it did help some drivers, like Patrick who didn’t even get to make a qualifying attempt. Too bad for the DQ, he really ran a great race. We had 5 cautions before we there were 7 laps on the scoreboard, and 8 before lap 18. So after that we went to single file restarts to make sure we could get the rest of the races in last night. Ended up being the right decision as we finished 15 minutes before curfew.

I think it will work, just needs some tweaking, more respect, and patience between the drivers. Everytime we put the cone out, there wasn’t enough give, and way to much take between the drivers.

81 caution laps along with the 50 green flag laps 131 laps total according to data from the car for that race.

The cone deal seemed a bit confusing to most people but worth a try I guess. Look forward to the race in three weeks. Thanks to Critter, John and all track workers for the hard work putting that race together.

I really like the cone restarts, for several reasons, it makes you have to think and be smart while trying to run a race.

#1 You have to really pay attention to who goes to the outside, if you get behind the wrong car or group of cars you will go backwards in a hurry.

#2 You have to be observant in practice and early in the race to see who’s able to handle being on the outside.

#3 you have to have confidence in you own skill as a driver and your setup to be able to run the outside.

#4 You have to hope that the car on the bottom stays down low and doesn’t run you up into the third groove in the first and second turn. (this happened too me once.

#5 If you get a really good restart and get clear of the car on the bottom, and decide to move down, you better expect to get pile drove in the back bumper getting into the first turn. (this happened to me also)

I also like the Delaware restarts the Sportsman series used to do with giving the leader a row by themselves and everybody after the leader is double file.

Double wide restarts are also acceptable if you don’t want too use your imagination.

Single wide restarts are whats killing short track racing and should be done away with completely. The cars are all too equal to line up single file and expect a good race.

Just My Opinion

I like the cone restart idea also. As John stated, there were some issues Saturday night. The biggest issue seemed to be getting people lined up correctly so they were in the proper order to go to the cone. That situation got worse when there was a caution right after a restart with cars running side by side. It had to be a nightmare for the scorers. I don’t think it was drivers fighting over a position as much as they honestly didn’t know where they were when the caution came out. It would have helped tremendously if they had raceceivers or radio communication of some sort. Scoring would still be an issue. I think it was good they stopped doing it after a while. It was just taking too long. I know of one person who said they would never come back. Hopefully it will be fixed and she’ll change her mind.
I agree with Patrick about the Delaware style restarts and single file restarts also. I’m a little surprised to hear a racer say this. LOL
BTW Patrick, I didn’t manage to get a clean picture of your car before you got bent up. Wondering if that front fender design being sheet metal is more prone to damage than the “plastic” nose pieces? You’d know.

Yes it is more prone to damage for sure, but I’m hoping with a new bumper design the fenders will be protcted much more.

The reason I like the 2 wide restarts is because I’m not only a racer I’m a fan.

Cone races are fine after the drivers get used to it. I also like Deleware restarts also. Anything but single file restarts. Raceceivers are a great idea at all tracks. We have raced at Eastbay before with just the man in the flagstand and the guy on the raceceiver as far as flagmans went and they run the whole program with no issues.

Patrick, the car looks cool its so nice to see something different.
