Please keep Dave in your prayers… I heard he had a heart attack recently and this morning I received a note from Harry Campbell that Dave is now in Hospice care… Dave is without a doubt probably the greatest driver in the history of Florida racing… He could drive and win in anything… I saw him take cars that other drivers would simply pull off the track with and give up and put them in the top five easily… The guy could pass cars at Sunshine like they were driving in the other direction… Get well soon!
He did the same thing at Citrus…or ANYWHERE he went for that matter. I remember his battles with Wayne Reutimann back in the day. No doubt he is one of the best to ever drive in this state, if not the best.
I had the privilege of racing with Dave at Golden Gate. He was always tough to get around, but raced very clean. My son has raced against him at Desoto in the owm, so we both raced with one of the best. Our prayers are with you, and yours.
I 2nd everything that was said here. Dave could put on a show
I would drive from Orlando to Citrus County every Saturday night just to watch him hotlap…I’m truly privileged to have been able to watch him race.
i got to grow up with him driving cars my dad worked on i wish him the best such a true person soft to speak an a hand full to race with had to be the best in fla for many years :engel016:

one big challange kenny faircloth
Dave was our first “west-coast” driver that I can remember in our car, in about '76 or ‘77 at the ‘Gate and at Sunshine. Few years later, with Childers driving, we’d be fightin’ the "Lil’ General" for not just one track championship, but four (two each at the 'Gate and Sunshine).
Didn’t get to see ol’ Dave in the “Fantastic 8”; but man, did he wheel the hell outta Stanford’s Inter-Bay Marine #69’s, Ward’s .30-'06, and Buzzie’s 00 in the mid '80s.
Dave in our car at the '77 200:
Scarborough in the first version of the 69:
Scarborough was also a helluva Sprint car driver:
We’ll keep him in our prayers, Dave. Thanks for the news.

What is the current status of Dave & what hospital is he in ? Can he have visitors ? Someone please give updates ?? Thank you
Dave is at Hospice in Brooksville, 12242 Cortez Blvd (Hwy 50, west of the Suncoast Parkway). he is accepting visitors at this time. When the time comes i will post when and where his memorial service will be.
Dave Scarborough
I first saw Dave race at the old Brevard County Speedway in Eau Gallie in he summer of 1957 in a '34 Ford sedan. He was good then and just got better over time. As good was he was at Sunshine he never gave a poor performance at West Palm Beach or Golden Gate or Anderson, Indiana for that matter. He was good in modifieds, supermodifieds, sprint cars, late models and almost anything he decided to crawl into. On top of that he was easy to talk to, almost always a gentleman and a hard racer from lap one. If having the respect of your fans and peers is a sign of accomplishment, Dave Scarborough is at the apex right now. If you’re a Scarborough fan my condolences, if you’re not, you missed out of enjoying one of the best drivers the state of Florida ever produced.

I was asked by the family to make this announcement on the message board.
I must completely agree with Marty,s comments on Dave He was certainly versatile it only required wheels and an engine. He was at home on a flat track or banked, and was not limited by the presence or absence of fenders. I like Marty first saw him at Eau Gallie speedway and last saw him in an OWM at Lake City in the late ninties or early 2000. My condolences to all concerned.

Because Dave was so successful he had a multitude of rides over the years and I was just thinking back to a few that I personally saw him drive. First was the '34 Ford sedan at Eau Gallie in '57. This was an unusual body for the time as most guys ran the smaller and lighter coupes and and while a few sedans did compete they were usually the larger '37 Fords. I believe this ride for Dave was silver with red trim but the number escapes me totally.
Also saw him in a gold and white No. 81 Model A coupe in late 1965 at Eau Gallie with sponsorship from Automotive Supply. And both a supermodified and a '57 Chevy LM sporting the cream and red colors of Arrow Plumbing of Sarasota with the number 15 on the doors. Gorgeous cars always and they were winners too. A gold and white four door '55 Chevy No. 81 was his ride at West Palm Beach in '66 as I recall. Later came the very successful Super Fantastic 8 big block powered '67 Chevelle, red with a white top and still later the yellow Interbay Marine No. 69 late models. I believe he may also have driven a No. 21 Mustang LM that was also driven for a time by Wayne Reutimann. And of course the No. 12 cars for Bob Kirk out of West Palm, when the car was campaigned primarily on the west coast by various drivers.
As for sprint cars, I vividly recall Dave in Bob Luscomb’s bright red No. 5 and it always brings back wonderful memories. There had to have been other sprinters too but I don’t recall them.
There may be a dozen or more additional but those are the ones that quickly come to mind at the moment. I’d venture to guess that few drivers had as many various rides as Dave did and the one constant to every one of them was that he made the cars winners because of his talent, knowledge and keen sense of how to take care of his equipment. In short, Dave Scarborough was a winner.

Another little bit of information about Dave. The first race car he drove was #74, the last car he drove was #74, is age now, 74.
I spoke with the family this morning and would like everyone to know that Dave is resting comfortably, because of his strong relationship with the Lord, he is totally at peace with his situation.:engel016:
Dave drove a number of Sprints over the years but his best rides were Harry Campbell’s #11, Lee Parker’s #7 and Bob Luscomb’s #5…
30 years ago , Father’s Day
I remember in 1981 (maybe '82) I was racing MX at the Croom race track just west of the Croom motorcycle area. It was Father’s day and they decided to have a special Fathers race. All the dads mounted up on their son’s equiptment or borrowed bikes and lined up for the race. When I noticed that a shorter gentleman had made his way to the starting line . All the other bikes
were 125, 250 , or 500 cc bikes. But here’s Dave Scarborough on his son’s 80 cc racer. He even made that thing look fast !
One of my early heroes back at Golden Gate as a kid.
