I just edited this post to show Jack Cook as the 1989 Winner. Thank you to the Fan who called with that information. If ANY fans and/or drivers out there have any further info, please don’t hesitate to call 386-427-4129. Am trying to confirm if 1990 was Bobby Cook or Bobby Gill, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The information on this list is what has been discovered and recorded through old Programs, Photos, Newspapers, etc.

I sure do miss the great racing that they had in the 70’s and 80’s. Trickle, Hanley, Balough, Scarborough, Porter, Fenton and many more. They sure put on some good shows back then. Call me old school, but I sure do miss it. Today you have all these young kids with parents with deep pockets that call themselves racers. That’s not what real racing is to me. You need to go out and earn what you get, not buy it. Ahh… the good ole days.

I found the missing winners for you Mark…

You’re welcome.

You’d think all of that info and much, much more would have been available right here in Florida instead of having to rely on Speed51.
Good question about 1990 though. Jack Cook or Bobby Gill could easily have won that race. They were both red hot at that time.

We did confirm that there races in 1994 & 1993…

1994 - Jack Cook
1993 - (still unknown winner)

All of this info and more will start appearing on NSS Website. Working very hard with Elgin Traylor (who had a great Website) and Tim Quiverin to put together a “History” section to the website.

Actually the Cracker 200 goes back much farther…
This photo of Jim Alvis, Dave McInnis, Billy Gill and Ernie Bass was listed on the back “1968 Cracker 200 at New Smyrna Speedway” This race may have been won by Bud Middaugh but I think it was one of three 200-lap races run at NSS during its first full year as a paved track… I think Doc Epps was the promoter… I was at most of these races but my memory just isn’t what it used to be and I’ve lost most of the newspapers that covered this stuff…

Is the 24 Bud Middaugh? I don’t recall that as his number but he did like to run the 1961 bubble top chevys.

The #24 was Billy Gill of Tampa… This is the '61 Chevy Bud Middaugh won with at NSS in 1968…

Many thanks I couldn’t remember the number but you can’t forget the top hat. I saw him run West Palm and remember he was very smooth much in the style of Dave McGinnis.

I saw Bud Middaugh go up in a ball of flames coming out of turn 4 in that 61 bubbletop at Columbus Motor Speedway around 1968-9.It was a scary sight but Bud emerged A-ok
