Where do you find the list of part numbers aloud for the Superlate Spec motor ?
Good Question…
its a secret I guess its a scam.
What happened to the contingency $$$ program that was promised with this monopoly? ??
I think its time for the racer to stand up and ask questions? Choose your engine builder or build your own dont be cornholed to buy from only a select group of …

Build a “Spec” engine like they run up in Pensacola and Mobile and some other tracks up there. You can go right to 5flagsspeedway.com i believe and under the SLM rules it has a link to it. You don’t have to have all the specific parts like a certain timing cover, oil pan, valve covers, pistons, crank and so on. Plus you cannot build it yourself. The one they run up there just have “Spec’s” and have to just fit the rules. No name brands. And you can build it yourself if you want. Get with Jacob(JWP) and he can fix you up.
I know a lot of people have gone to Jimmy Cope over the years for spec engines, he seems to have the most spec engines out there, but i don’t know if the actual specs are published. I wouldn’t mind seeing those specs myself.
I believe Progressive has the most. Like twice or 3 times as many.
You might be right. I’ll take your word for it.
Theres no secret about any of the SPEC engines running. Theres no reason for a list to be put out on any of them. If you dont like it so be it but we have another option for those as well and it makes just as much power and anyone can build it. The only scam going on is these message boards where people bitch and whine behind a computer. All the spec engine builders put up money all year at different races. If you dont like a spec engine then build a SSPE engine better known as a parts engine. All engine combination currently running are to close to complain about any of them. So go to work on your chassis and you might just get a little faster.
Would you be kind enough to post in English from now on. Or at least have an adult take a look at it first.
Ricky’s post has lots of words without one clear thought. An indictment of the educational system for sure. And possibly an indictment of too many beers before posting from " behind a computer ".
In trying to wade through his gibberish, it looks as though Ricky thinks he is in charge of spec engines in Florida. I doubt he is. But he mentioned spec engine builders putting up money, so i’d say any participation in the spec engine building business would require a pay off to tracks in the form of “points fund money”.
Matt–Seems like there are a number of thoughts there to me.
>If you don’t like spec engines–lump it (although no one complained about them…).
>Spec engines are all about the same.
>You can build a similar “parts” engine yourself.
>Instead of worrying about spec engines, work on your chassis
Yeah… the guy coming off the corner the hardest is the one moving up, and that is typically motor. That aside,
Matt or Ricky or anyone else:
Could you explain what a “spec” engine is? I always thought the Super Late Models ran whatever cubic money could buy, and bore & stroke, compression, porting, cam, all that was wide open and sort of proprietary to the professional builder.
If it is “limited”, like the crate classes including sportsman, well, then why the heck are there so many late model classes with similar chassis, as mentioned in the “garage queens” thread?
Thx.
We’ll have to wait for a racer to step in and explain spec engines. I’m still waiting for someone to fully explain pit slabs and why racers have to pay extra for them.
Those are tracks I tend to avoid. Maybe paying for a slab for this season, but EVERY race night having to pay to park after $30+ at the gate is just a rip off… JMO
-JIM-
Pit slab fee is where, after you have paid for your pit pass, you have to pay for rental of the slab of concrete to park your car on. Don’t know about Desoto but at Citrus these slabs were actually poured by the racers themselves with the promise that the slab was “theirs”. Well, somehow that went out the window and a fee is now charged. You don’t have to rent a slab. You are allowed to park for free at the extreme end of the pits away from the track, in the dirt…
florida spec
I have followed this for some time. The Florida spec engine pretty much saved super late model racing, car counts have been low, but not because of the engine packages available. To be competitive at any track that required HP, you would have to spend around 40K to get a competitive engine, before the spec’s. You can now buy a spec for around 17K, and run with the high dollar built engines now. The spec is built with all inexpensive off the shelve parts, but is allowed more cubic inches to compensate for the HP of a built engine. I am sure the builders are making profit on the spec engines, but they need to make a profit to be in business. All in all, I would say the spec engines are good for racing in general. There are options for those who insist on building there own engines. Vince P.
Ill do the pit slab for you.
Don’t bitch about my spelling and if you don’t get it im sorry.
In the days past there was only dirt in the pits at all the tracks.
some driver that was in did conc for a living asked if he could do a slab.
Great idea. The slam he did was about big as 3 pits. the track took over and sold the slabs to the racers that wanted and the racer did the work.
As years went some of the racers did not show and that greedy track promoter (me ) rented the slab for one night or is sat empty.
at NSS the slabs in the infield were owned but the racer. If you could not park on someone else slab the infield would be empty. There is only one racer with his slab in the infield… David Rogers and I let him park on it with whatever he had.
I todays world I don’t know why any track would charge. All the slabs have been payed for years.
Ill give you the spec engine when my fingers are ready…

I’ve seen the concrete pads in the pits. I didn’t realize racers had to pay to use them.
You have to pay an entry fee, you have to pay for pit passes, you have to purchase track gas and tires at track prices, and then you get to “rent” a pit stall? Seems like the entire pit area should be in decent shape so the racers wouldn’t be forced to rent a usable space. The track owners haven’t missed very many ways to rape the racers have they? It really won’t be long before the racers have a 4 coke and 4 hamburger mandatory purchase.
Slabs?
Matt, although I do not agree with racers having to pay to park, or renting slabs; the reality of it, is the front gate attendance has dropped to an all time low, and the track owners have had to make more profit (parking, tires, fuel) off the racer, to keep there doors open. The state of asphalt racing is grim, including Nascar, just look at the stands! Vince P.
That’s where you’re wrong, track owners can’t keep making up the difference off of the racers. The front injector has dropped off because there’s no show anymore. There aren’t very many racers left, and i can guess why after reading all of the fees they have to pay. The number one reason racers give when asked why they’ve parked their cars, is it’s too expensive to race. Reason number two is that the purse hasn’t kept up with the costs.
What would make anyone think that the solution is to keep grabbing more and more money from the people who put on the show? The solution is to bring in sponsors that are willing to put their money toward increasing the purse. From what i’ve read on here, the points fund is just smoke and mirrors by tracks and suppliers to sell products while forcing the racers to pay their own points fund.
I don’t understand everything about the spec engine, but if there are spec engine tracks, then the spec engine rules should be posted for everyone. If the spec engine program is nothing more than an exclusive club, only for certain engine builders who are willing to pay to be included, then i’d say it’s another track owner rip off of the racers.
I just can’t imagine why Florida ovals are losing cars and fans.
Facts
Matt, by all means, I do not agree with the tracks making all ther profit off the back gate, I was just stating the facts. I also agree there are a lot of solutions, and all of yours make sense. But since we do not own any of the tracks, easier said then done. I believe the fans have all gone, because of the horrible car counts. Ever time I have gone to and asphalt race in the last 3 years, I say to myself, it was bad, and boring, because of the car count. It is going to take a track owner with deep pockets to get the car count back up, and then I believe the fans will come back, but it is going to have to be in that order.
the spec engine idea started in the north and south at the same time.
The cost of a 9 to 1 was over $40,000 for a new one. the as u would call it Rule engine from the engine builders had gone over $30,000.
The idea of the spec engine was to match the hp for a low cost.
The reason the teams don’t get a parts list is because they cant build one anyway. The cost when it started was $16,000.
There is no gringing polishing blasting dipping or any other things done to the original parts to run up cost. Just parts.
The engine is sealed and sold to the teams.
No tracks get anything of the sale of these engines. They last and they are fast and 1/2 the cost
There are 3 engine builders in florida and when I left there were 2 in the north.
These engines are not the only ones in SLM. There are some 9to1 and steel head teams still out there. There choice.
The tracks and teq people have the list of parts and seal # for these engines so there is no secret.
