PASS South Celebrates 10 Years Of Racing With Salute To Fans At Caraway Speedway

CHARLOTTE, NC (July 22) ? After a well deserved break from the heat, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model and Pro Late Model competitors will hit the track once again this Saturday night at Caraway Speedway. This weekend?s action at Caraway Speedway will also serve as PASS Fan Appreciation. To celebrate 10 years of PASS racing in the Southeast, PASS fans will be honored with a $20 car load special or a $10 general admission ticket for those fans who might be traveling to the races solo.
?The fans are so important to this sport, but in particular, to short track racing,? said PASS President Tom Mayberry. ?This is a small way that we can say ?Thank You? to those folks who have spent their hard earned money to support PASS throughout the years.?
Jody Measamer hopes he can say thank you to his fans and supporters in victory lane following Saturday night?s events at Caraway Speedway. Growing up in nearby Sanford, NC, Measamer first set sight on Caraway Speedway helping out his racing mentor, Tom Usry. Eventually, Measamer began racing himself and was one of the most successful Late Model Supertruck drivers Caraway Speedway has ever seen. That success at Caraway has translated over to the PASS South Super Late Model division where Measamer had one of his strongest outings of 2014, finishing third in the North-South Shootout behind race winner Ryan Moore and second place finisher Christopher Bell.
?I?ve got a ton of laps at Caraway and know a lot of that track?s characteristics,? says Measamer, driver of the Aquavapor Cigarettes #98 Chevrolet. ?After that run we had there last Fall, I?m really excited to be going back to Caraway this weekend.?
Measuring just slightly under a half mile in length, Caraway Speedway will provide quite a challenge for the PASS South racers. With long straighaways and extremely tight corners, Measamer believes having a good setup and durable brakes will be the key to winning Saturday night?s 125 lapper.
?Turns 1 and 2 are your extremely tough corners at Caraway,? says Measamer. ?It?s so sharp, plus you have to get on the brakes so hard getting into turn 1 and you?ve got have your car where it will rotate the center so you can get a good drive off turn 2 because it?s such a long back straightaway. If you can?t get through the center and off turn 2, it kills your whole lap.?
Measamer suffered a tough start to the 2014 season, which saw him tumble 8 times down the front straightaway at Dillon Motor Speedway and destroy another car when a part failed at Rougemont, NC. With that bad luck behind him, Measamer currently sits third in points on the strength of three top 5 finishes so far this season. But Measamer and his team are not satisfied with their results in 2015.
?I really feel like we were in position to win three or four races earlier in the year,? says Measamer. ?Dillon we were in position to win or finish second, we were in position at Anderson in March, we got caught up in a wreck at Hickory, we cut a tire at Concord after sitting on the pole. If I could just have a race with no bad luck I would love to see how it would shake out.?
Measamer and his fellow PASS South Super Late Model competitors will look to close ground on series points leader Zane Smith this weekend at Caraway. Smith, will be joined by his teammate Matt Craig, along with championship hopefuls Tate Fogleman and Jimmy Doyle. PASS National Championship points leader Joey Doiron, coming off an impressive win last weekend in New York, will join Brandon Lynn in piloting the Woodman Racing entries. Joey Coulter will make his first PASS South start of the season at Caraway, along with Justin Gill, while Jeff Batten, Jared Fryar, Trey Jarrell, and Brandon Ward return as they each seek their first win of 2015.
Action begins on Friday at Caraway Speedway with pit gates opening at 3 PM followed by practice for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models, and Legends from 4-6:30 PM. On Saturday, pit gates open at 2 PM, followed by practice from 4-6 PM, and qualifying at 6:45 PM. Main event racing for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models and Legends will go green at approximately 8:15 PM.
