Dirt…been there done that, Dirtmolition Derby is more like it, no thanks. Ex and OS I have heard GREAT things about Showtime, I will be prepping my ride to run at Showtime, Bronson and Citrus. I think what most are reaching out here for is to plant a seed in the owners ears about making this sport a little more affordable for those that are committed to help field their shows. Will the rich guys complain if it became cheaper, no. Will the middle-class complain if its adjusted to make things affordable, hell no. Will the crowd complain about seeing more cars on the track, hell no, they are begging for it. Here’s a few examples, I have a son interested in racing, he wants to run the mod minis, he thought it would be semi-affordable, when I layout the expenses of the motor and other tangibles, you can see the silver dollar size eyeballs, and the lack of engagement. My point is, years ago I could field two quality cars, now I can’t. When friends ask “what’s it cost to get one of those things?” They cringe at the concept and would rather buy a vacation home. Racing is not what it used to be…THIS IS LOCAL RACING for crying out loud, not the days of the ol’ Winston Cup Series (Sorry I liked that name, sounds better than Sprint Cup…lol ) At one point we were preparing to run the Goodys DASH Series back then, it costed just as much as the late models and it was a NASCAR sanctioned regional tour that paid very good money, especially at Daytona. Today, the SLM’s illuminate the EXPENSE REPORT, and squash the PROFIT REPORT, unless you’re a six figure household then it’s like a trip through the McDonalds Drive Thru for you. Even then it’s just a SLM hobby, it’s not profitable by any means, no local racing is. Even a $5,000 or $15,000 to win will not go far after the race. Now, you run a support class show laying out some cash, and you’ll have to probably send people home and actually have qualifying. Because that’s where the cars are sitting on jack stands, in the middle class garages. I’d be glad to field another SLM or OWM, but not with todays rules and today low car counts. Just not middle-class friendly, and that is the majority of local track drivers and support, the middle class. That is the message to the track owners, maybe not all, but most I can comfortably say.
Counterpoint:
If Citrus, Auburndale, and Desoto followed Yoho’s lead regarding rules and dates, life would be easier for them.
And that is the exact reasoning of why racing is the way it is.
Everyone wants to be the big dog.
Maybe the track owners should meet up someplace, whip 'em out, measure 'em and see who has the biggest one, then they can set their dates based on the measurements?
But…why?
Yoho set his dates, as far as he is concerned, that deal is done, and there are others to attend to (of course I made that up and cannot speak for Robert).
Never let it be said that Yoho is not a Team Player, as long as, y’know, it’s his team…
ps–yardstick!? John Sarppraicone tried that, no takers, apparently!
Runfofun,
I would suggest a Street Stock or Sportsman car (not that you need my suggestion) with a bunch of money in the Seat, Hans device, etc.
Phil Jacques (remember him, he used to be a prolific poster{child?}?) has a well built car of similar spec.
NSS has it going on with the Sportsman cars. They appear to be not a lot more expensive than a hobby stock, and have a little more prestige.
Concerns? Date and Rules in '16.
ps–Just in case there is additional “lack of engagement”, think how cool you would look in the seat…
O Schoo (lol)
I will race till I can no longer race…kind of like Rantz Phillips (lol) But seriously, I love the sportsman’s and street stocks as well, I just might, you never know. Heck I’d burn the wheels of someone’s bomber for them. If it is a race car, I’ll drive it…lol, just love the sport and don’t want to see it dwindle away unnecessarily. Runfofun, that’s what I do. As do most probably. Not here to seek millions in sponsorship, hire engineers, and build 100K race cars. As most probably are not either.

Yeah, I remember him. Now, he deleted his FB fan page and ran and hid. He wadded his car up by driving over his head and then failed miserably at the World Series show. $20k street stock and a 10 cent head are a dangerous combo.
Imo
Let’s say he also did unmentionable things to his grandma.
If I say nasty (Trump’s term) things about him, my bad.
Did he actually do unmentionable things to your grandma?
I hope not. Elder abuse is no laughing matter.
So, wait a minute, Philthy wadded up his new car recently?
If I remember it correctly, he got squeezed into the wall a pretty good lick.
Radiator, a few crash bars, I think he was able to straighten out most of the front sheet metal (sheet plastic?).
In other words, standard stuff for a street stock.
And he took it in stride–as opposed to, “that terrible Weftracing-like guy that ran into me is a bum and I hope his engine blows up”.
ps–most of the elders in my life are abuse-ers, not abuse-ees.
Rance not Rantz
