It is frightening what they are trying to put that fire out with. There is one guy standing there spraying a pisser on a car that is engulfed in flames. God forbid the guy was hurt and didn’t get out of the car, the track HAS to get some better fire equipment.

I noticed that to. Can’t believe that’s what they had to put that fire out like this one!
Wait till the NASCAR brass see these photos. A 20 year old pick-up truck, a dune buggy, and 2 handheld extinguishers. Not to mention the state of the art fire suits the rescue team is wearing. I’m not sure how long NASCAR is going to want their name ( such as it is ) associated with that type of back woods scene.
I’ve read that NSS has some top flight EMS and firefighters, and i know they are from some of the rescues they’ve made. But they need a track owner who’s more interested in giving them the best equipment to work with, not on the bare minimum he can spend.
What the pictures don’t show you is that NSS has a foam spraying setup on the firetruck which is relatively new Toyota. The spray foam put the fire out right away. The buggy for those of you who fail to realize it even after you have been there is the IMMEDIATE response and was there quickly. They busted a fuel cell, 22 gallons of fuel was everywhere. Don’t criticize if you weren’t there. Ask your favorite tracks if they have any kind of spray foam equipment on there truck I KNOW you will be surprised with the answer.
well from the pics doesn’t look like their foam did much of anything. the car is burnt to the ground. its a good thing the driver was able to get out . and I am sorry A pickup truck is not a fire truck I don’t care how new it is. or how many fire extinguishers you can load in the back.
Slow clean up. Slow track calls. Slow show. Questionable safety equipment.
Mr Garrity tells me things have changed, but amazingly all of the above are long traditions at NSS.
Perhaps the incident will be the catalyst for additional change moving forward.
The unfortunate incident that ended LeeRoy Porter’s career should not have happened in the first place, and clearly should never have to happen again.
RACERS, LET THIS BE YOUR WAKEUP CALL! YOUR safety is first and foremost YOUR responsibility.
Congratulations to Jordan Ives for making it out in good shape and a special thanks to The Man Upstairs.
